D-Day 80 Celebrations in Fowey.

The D-Day80 celebrations in Fowey centred around the lighting of a beacon on Town Quay on the 6th June 2024.

Fowey Remembers.

Program of D-DAY 80 events across Fowey.

Thursday 6th June: 

0900 - Town Quay. Town Crier Official Proclamation

1830 - Church bells ring

1900 - Town Quay - Celebratory service.

 

A community service with Fowey Church, featuring members of the British Legion, the Fowey Voices Choir and Lankelly Shout.

1600 - SAIL By Town Quay: Co-ordinated by Gallants, Harbour Commission and the Royal Fowey Yacht Club.

2000 - Town Quay. Lankelly Shout. 

2110 - Town Quay. Dedication by the Rev Carol Edleston. 

2115 - Town Quay. Lighting of the Beacon. To be lit by Mr Graham Champion and Mr John Adams.

                         

On completion Retire to the Royal British Legion. 

Friday 7th June: 

Events To Be Confirmed.

Saturday 8th June: 

1400 - 1600 - Squires Field Community Centre . D DAY 80 afternoon Tea. Cafe all welcome.

1630 - Town Quay. A brief service of blessing for the ship and for those sailing on the Morgenster.

1830 - Squires Field Community Centre . Fowey Film Club will be showing Saving Private Ryan.

Sunday 9th June: 

1100 - Church Grounds. A service to celebrate unseen service during the D-Day Landings. This includes the dogs that were parachuted onto the beaches to seek out land mines.

Accompanied by the Lostwithiel Town Band.

Please join us in the church grounds with your friendly, sociable dog. We would love you to bring photos of loved ones who took part in the arrangements for the D Day landings, or were affected in other ways by the invasion.
